Malaysia’s commitment to purchase 30 Boeing aircraft from the United States will not impact the country’s finances, says Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying.
Responding to Datuk Dr Nik Muhammad Zawawi Salleh (PN–Pasir Puteh) during Question Time in Parliament on Tuesday (Aug 19), Lim said the US$9.5bil purchase will not affect development expenditure in the 13th Malaysian Plan (13MP).
Lim added that the rise in federal debt was mainly to fund development and assured that the government remains on track to meet its 3.8% fiscal deficit target to keep debt within the statutory limit.
