Flash floods kill six in Pakistan-administered Kashmir

A family of six died when flash floods triggered by a sudden cloudburst ravaged the remote village of Sarli Sacha, local residents confirmed on Saturday, August 16.

The overnight deluge in the Lariya area destroyed at least six homes and swept away about 50 livestock. The deadly floods in Sarli Sacha come amid widespread monsoon devastation across South Asia.

In northwest Pakistan alone, more than 300 people have been killed after two days of torrential rains triggered flash floods, landslides, and lightning strikes, according to local officials.

The hardest-hit area was the mountainous northern region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where cloudbursts and raging floodwaters marked the deadliest downpour of this year's monsoon season.

By Saturday, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority confirmed at least 307 fatalities, with many more still missing.
