Wildfires encircle Albanian town of Delvina, prompting evacuations
Firefighters in the southern Albanian town of Delvina are battling wildfires that have encircled the city, local residents said late on Tuesday, August 12.
The region has seen numerous wildfires in the past two weeks, but this marks the first time the flames have reached Delvina, according to residents and local officials.
Additional firefighters from neighboring towns have been deployed. Army personnel have joined efforts as emergency teams worked to contain the blaze and protect the city.
Authorities have ordered evacuations as a precaution and late Tuesday, roads in Delvina were reportedly deserted.
