To celebrate the release of Tubular Bells and Mike Oldfield: The Collection, there was an international event on Saturday 6th June, which saw eight countries around the Globe taking part on BELL DAY. In the UK, the British Music Experience at the 02 hosted a spectacular event - The Handbell Ringers of Great Britain Vs The Orb. The 29-piece handbell ensemble played a version of Tubular Bells while The Orb DJ'ed a Orbular Bells set. People came from all over the country to watch and then join in on amassed handbells. Elsewhere bells rang in Sydney, Australia (at the Opera House – the iconic multi-venue performing arts centre), in Berlin, Germany (at the Berlin Victory Column / Siegessäule - the location were Mike Oldfield performed the legendary Millennium Bell concert on New Years Eve Y2K), in Belgium, Brussels (at the Atomium monument - built of spheres which are connected by tubes), in Japan, Yokohama (at the Hokutenin Temple, one of the traditional Japanese Temples), Buenos Aires, Argentina (at the Floralis Generica sculpture at ‘Plaza de las Naciones’ – the new monument and symbol of Buenos Aires), in Beijing, China & the Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Mike Oldfield was in great praise of the day, and rang his own bell from his boat, moored off America. The release of Tubular Bells - available in seven physical and digital formats out now - marks the first catalogue releases from the legendary artist since Mercury acquired his catalogue in 2007, and marks the start of a comprehensive reissue campaign.
