Rubio, NATO's Rutte call for 'lasting peace' in Russia-Ukraine conflict
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, speaking at a NATO meeting in Turkey on May 15, 2025 says there is no military solution to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and US President Donald Trump was open to 'virtually any mechanism' that would lead to peace. Alongside NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on the sidelines of an informal meeting of foreign ministers, Rubio called for an 'enduring and lasting peace' to the conflict. Rubio also told the media that NATO has the opportunity to grow even stronger in the alliance, and that the US 'intend and endeavor to have no weak links in this alliance.' The foreign ministers meeting in Antalya comes amid planned talks in Istanbul, also on Thursday, between Ukraine and Russia aimed at reaching a ceasefire agreement, which Rubio is expected to attend.
