The protests in Istanbul continued for a fifth night on Sunday (March 23) after a Turkish court jailed Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu pending trial on corruption charges.

Near the Istanbul municipality building, protesters threw fireworks and other objects at riot police, who responded with pepper spray, tear gas and water cannons.
