Memorial for former President Jimmy Carter, who died earlier this week, begins in Georgia
Former United States President Jimmy Carter’s state funeral began on Saturday, January 4, with ceremonies in his home state of Georgia. Carter will lie in repose there until being flown to Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, January 7.
At approximately 3 p.m. (Eastern Time), Carter’s motorcade arrived in Atlanta and made a stop at Georgia’s State Capitol, where state dignitaries greeted Carter’s eldest son John "Jack" Carter and grandson Jason Carter.
The motorcade then proceeded to the Carter Presidential Library, where a military honor guard received the casket. Family members addressed attendees at the Library.
