Brazilian authorities rescued 163 Chinese nationals from "slavery-like" conditions at a BYD factory construction site. Jinjiang Construction Brazil hired workers from China, confiscated their passports, and withheld 60% of their wages. Workers who quit were required to reimburse the company for their airfare to and from China. Prosecutors highlighted poor living conditions with dorms lacking mattresses and storage, alongside critical sanitary issues. BYD announced it would terminate its contract with Jinjiang and provide alternative housing for the workers.
