President-elect Donald Trump reiterated his plan to pardon individuals jailed for their involvement in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot on his first day in office.  in an NBC News interview, Trump claimed many pled guilty under duress, vowing to review individual cases. Trump also discussed his nominees for attorney general, Pam Bondi, and FBI director, Kash Patel, emphasizing they would act independently but could investigate his political rivals if deemed necessary. Patel has advocated for probes into Democrats, media, and DOJ members, while Trump suggested Jan. 6 Committee members could face imprisonment.
