Emmy-winning actress Kerry Washington received the 2,796th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Monday (December 2)

She was joined at the ceremony by two Hollywood powerhouse producers Tyler Perry and Shonda Rhimes.

Speaking at the podium, Rhimes said of her 'Scandal' star, "Over the course of Scandal, I watched her become a wife and a mother. I also watched her become a businesswoman, a producer, and an icon. She does it all with this determination and this grace, and she's joyful about it.

Washington was also joined for the ceremony by her parents.

"My mom and dad also taught me to dream," said Washington. "They taught me to believe and to pursue. And so here we are. Mom, Dad, can you believe it? An actual star. "

Unlike most recipients, who revel in the honor of getting a star on Hollywood Boulevard, Washington said the star was "for everyone".

"When I look at this star, I see all of the people I've ever worked with who have made this possible," Washington said. "Every director, every actor I've been able to act across from every crew member, every producer, every publicist, every person who's helped me get here."

After the ceremony, Washington signed for all her fans who turned out and was there long after nearly her guests and the media had left.

Washington will next be seen in true life World War II drama "The Six Triple Eight", directed by Perry, which will stream on Netflix on December 20.
