Prediabetes Symptoms, Risk Factors, and Prevention Tips.
“Borderline diabetes,” or prediabetes, is when your blood sugar is higher than normal but not quite high enough to be diabetes. Your body still produces insulin, but it’s not as effective, so your blood sugar stays elevated, a condition called insulin resistance. If you have prediabetes, you’re not alone—about 1 in 3 adults in the U.S. have it. The good news is, it doesn’t mean you’ll definitely get diabetes. However, without lifestyle changes, 15-30% of people with prediabetes may develop diabetes within 3-5 years. Prediabetes usually doesn’t cause symptoms, and only 20% of people know they have it.
