Hurricane Milton: Captain rescued while clinging to a cooler in the middle of the ocean

On October 10, 2024, the U.S. Coast Guard rescued a vessel captain off Longboat Key, Florida.

The captain had clung to a cooler overnight amid Hurricane Milton, facing winds of 75-90 mph and seas reaching 20-25 feet.

He was approximately 30 miles from the shore when he was found.

Following the rescue, he was transported to Tampa General Hospital for medical attention.
