At least 78 people died after an overcrowded boat, carrying around 100 passengers despite a 30-person capacity, capsized on Lake Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The boat sank near Kituku port while traveling from Minova to Goma. Ten survivors were hospitalized, and rescue operations continue as the death toll may rise. Eyewitnesses reported the boat losing balance just before sinking, causing many passengers to jump into the lake.
