A flight was forced to make an emergency landing due to an engine failure mid-air.

The IndiGo flight 6E0573 was headed to Bengaluru, India, on August 30 but had to return to Kolkata minutes after take off.

Footage captured by a passenger shows sparks shooting from the engine and smoke billowing from the underneath the wing.

The aircraft was carrying 173 passengers and crew, all of whom were brought to safety, landing in Kolkata at 11:05 pm on a single engine.

No injuries were reported.
