Iran bus crash kills at least 28 Pakistani pilgrims

At least 28 people have been killed after a bus carrying pilgrims from Pakistan to Iraq crashed in central Iran.

The crash happened on Tuesday night in the Iranian province of Yazd as millions of Shia Muslims took part in the Arbaeen pilgrimage to Iraq. The passengers were travelling to the Iraqi holy city of Karbala to commemorate one of the biggest events in the Shia calendar.

There were 51 people on board as the vehicle crashed and caught fire outside of the city of Taft, about 300 miles southeast of Tehran, a local emergency official, Mohammad Ali Malekzadeh, told the state-run news agency IRNA.
