The US Secret Service was "solely responsible" for security at the Trump rally site where a gunman fired shots, according to Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle. Cheatle stated that local law enforcement was responsible for the building from which Thomas Matthew Crooks fired shots at Trump. She clarified that the Secret Service was totally responsible for designing, implementing, and executing security at the site. Cheatle said the Secret Service will review the incident and make any necessary changes to policies, procedures, or methods. When asked if the perimeter at the rally was too small, Cheatle said it "encompassed the area that we needed to secure the event."
