On the day when Mughira bin Shuba (ruler of Kufa) died, he stood up for the sermon and praised and described the goodness of Allah and said that you should fear Allah alone, He has no partner, and you should live with patience and contentment. Until another ruler comes over you and he is about to come. Then he said, "Pray for forgiveness for your deceased ruler, because he (Mughira) also loved forgiveness." I pledge allegiance to you on Islam. So I pledged allegiance to you on this condition (so) I swore by the Lord of this mosque that I am your well-wisher, then I begged for forgiveness and came down from the pulpit.
