The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) blocked 549 pornographic websites and 69 prostitution-related websites between Jan 1 to June 1 this year, according to Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching.
The Deputy Minister told the Dewan Rakyat on Monday (June 24) that the MCMC had also collaborated with various social media providers, including X (formerly Twitter) and Telegram, to remove 308 instances of pornographic content and 838 cases of prostitution-related content from their platforms during the same period.
Responding to a query from Beaufort MP Datuk Siti Aminah Aching regarding measures against online prostitution activities, Teo explained that engagement sessions with social media platform providers are ongoing to enhance commitment and cooperation in monitoring and controlling harmful content on these platforms.
