Inspired by Olympics debut, Japan's seniors blaze breakdancing trail
A 74-year-old master of classical Japanese dance may seem an unlikely member of a seniors' breakdancing group but for Saruwaka Kiyoshie, who is using a stage name, getting her feet wet in the sport was a no-brainer after it was confirmed for the 2024 Paris Games. Sarukawa’s foray into breakdancing came about because a fellow alumni from her high school, Reiko Maruyama, contacted her and suggested creating a senior breakdancing group as a way to energize the community through sports and exercise.
