Pilgrims 'stone the devil' as part of haj in Saudi Arabia

Muslim pilgrims in Saudi Arabia hurled pebbles at giant walls in a symbolic stoning of the devil early on Sunday (June 16) morning.

Pilgrims arrived in Mina where they had gathered pebbles to throw at stone columns symbolising the devil.

The ritual of stoning, known as Jamarat, marks the first day of Eid al-Adha, or the feast of sacrifice, which is celebrated by Muslims across the globe.
