Memorial Day holds special meaning to local Veterans Affairs director
Tammy McLaughlin, director of Mercer County Veterans Affairs, is a Gold Star spouse. For her, Memorial Day is a reminder of her late husband’s ultimate sacrifice.
“It was just something in his blood. His dad was an Army veteran. His dad served in Germany. Mike was born in Munich,” Tammy said.
Mike began his military career as an ROTC cadet and was then commissioned a second lieutenant. In January 2005, he was deployed to Camp Shelby, and not long after, tragedy struck the McLaughlin family.
