US soldier Gordon Black was arrested in Russia last week on theft charges in the far eastern city of Vladivostok. Black is a Staff Sgt. stationed in South Korea who was traveling home to the US and stopped in Russia to meet a woman he was dating. A Russian court confirmed Black will be held in pre-trial detention until July 2nd to prevent him from evading charges. Black is accused of "secretly stealing property" from a Russian citizen, causing them "significant damage." The US State Department advises against all travel to Russia, and there are concerns about Americans being wrongly detained.
