The Chinese government criticized the ratification of the United States' military aid package for Taiwan because it was seen as violating the "One China" principle.

"China firmly rejects the US passing a military aid package law that contains negative content towards China. We have lodged a serious protest with the US," said Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian at a regular press conference in Beijing, China, on Monday.

US President Joe Biden signed a war aid package for Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan, and the Indo-Pacific worth a total of 95 billion US dollars on Wednesday (24/4) after the law was approved by the US Congress.
The aid package consists of US$61 billion in war aid for Ukraine, US$26 billion allocated to Israel for the war against Hamas in Gaza, and US$8 billion for Taiwan and US allies in the Indo-Pacific region to face increasing threats.

"This package seriously violates China's sovereignty. It includes large amounts of military aid to Taiwan, which seriously violates 'One China, Lin Jian added.

According to Lin Jian, the law also undermines the principles of a market economy and fair competition by deliberately attacking other countries' companies in the name of "national security," which again shows the hegemonic and intimidating nature of the US.
"The US is advocating sanctions against China while ignoring the enormous efforts China has made to help the US overcome the fentanyl crisis," said Lin Jian.

The law also threatens to impose unilateral sanctions and long-term jurisdiction on normal economic and trade relations between China and Iran based on the international legal framework, which could create serious obstacles to Sino-US cooperation in related fields.

"We urge the US to respect China's core interests and concerns and not implement negative articles regarding China. Otherwise, China will take firm action to safeguard our sovereignty, security, and development interests," stressed Lin Jian.

China also emphasized that it was not the trigger for the Ukrainian crisis or a party to it. "We have never done anything to fan the flames or seek profit from the Ukraine crisis. China's position is open, and we are committed to pushing forward peace negotiations and seeking a political solution to this crisis," said Lin Jian.

China, according to Lin Jian, has the right to trade and economic relations with countries in the world, including Russia, on the basis of equality and mutual benefit.

"The US continues to pour ammunition into Ukraine while blaming our trade with Russia. It's quite clear who is actually fanning the flames and exacerbating this crisis. We urge the US to stop slandering, pressuring, and scapegoating China; stop attacking Chinese companies with harsh sanctions," Lin Jian said.

The war aid package for Ukraine includes air defense capabilities, artillery shells, armored vehicles, and other weapons to support Ukrainian troops whose morale has
