Samsung Regains Dominance in Global Smartphone Market with Strong Q1 Performance

Global smartphone shipments grew 7.8% year-over-year to 289.4 million units in Q1 2024 according to preliminary IDC data. Samsung retook the top position with 20.8% market share, shipping 60.1 million smartphones in Q1 compared to Apple's 50.1 million units and 17.3% share. Xiaomi saw strong growth of 33.8% to ship 40.8 million units and become the third largest vendor globally. The recovery strengthens smartphone fundamentals like higher average selling prices as consumers keep devices longer.
