Denmark midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg pushed the referee over in a bizarre incident.

Hojbjerg was frustrated that official Allard Lindhout was blocking his path to the ball and proceeded to shove him over.

The incident occurred during Denmark's goalless draw in a friendly at home to Switzerland, with Hojbjerg not being punished.

Tottenham midfielder Hojbjerg played 84 minutes, with Manchester United stars Rasmus Hojlund and Christian Eriksen also starting.

Joachim Andersen of Crystal Palace and Leicester's Jannik Vestergaard were also involved, while Brentford's Mathias Jensen featured as a substitute.

Commenting on Hojbjerg's push on the referee, one user wrote on X: 'Definitely a red if he did that in Premier League'.

However, another user argued that Hojbjerg's actions were 'completely justified'.

Another user defended Hojbjerg, writing: 'To be fair.. I'm sick of refs getting in the way, I feel like they don't try hard enough to avoid it.

However, one user claimed that Hojbjerg should have been sent off. They wrote: 'That’s a red card in my books, I wouldn’t take that personally'.

Hojbjerg has featured 27 times for Tottenham in the Premier League so far this season, however only six of those have come from the start.

Despite links away from the club in January, he and his lawyer both confirmed that he would stay and continue to fight for his place.

'I feel I can help the team,' he said earlier this campaign. 'Again, I showed that I'm ready and of course, like everyone I want to start every game. There's no secret in that.

'We're all ambitious but I think the important thing is to stay ambitious on behalf of the team.

'This is the main thing that we can all keep our ambitions from the team's perspective. We all have to perform for the team.

'The key is that we are playing for something. As I say now, I always said in the past that the purpose of fighting for something drives me, and I feel that Tottenham is fighting for something.

Denmark are back in action on Tuesday when they host the Faroe Islands.

Hojbjerg has a lot of international experience, having been capped by his country on 74 occasions.

Denmark is in England's group at Euro 2024, including Slovenia and Serbia.
