Juan Manuel Marquez defeats Juan Diaz by unanimous decision in Las Vegas, retains WBO, WBA titles
LAS VEGAS - In what became a 12-round test of wills, Juan Manuel Marquez scored a unanimous decision over a valiant but overmatched Juan Diaz before a crowd of 8,383 at the Mandalay Bay Event Center Saturday night.
Marquez (51-5-1, 37 KOs) retained his WBA and WBO lightweight titles with the victory and made an outstanding case for a third fight with Manny Pacquiao,
The last time Marquez and Diaz met it was the 2009 Fight of the Year. This one was close to being as good.
Diaz (35-4, 17 KOs) recently graduated from the University of Houston and wants to go to law school. If he practices law the way he fights, he'll never be the attorney for the defense in the courtroom.
