House panel passes bill revoking SMNI franchise, cites founder in contempt
The House of Representatives' Committee on Legislative Franchises approves House Bill 9710 that revokes the franchise granted to Sonshine Media Network Inc. (SMNI) on Tuesday, March 12, 2024. It comes after the same committee moved to cite SMNI's controversial televangelist Apollo Quiboloy in contempt for continually snubbing the committee hearings. Committee chairman and Paranaque Rep. Gustavo Tambunting hopes that the franchise revocation bill would be passed before the sine-die adjournment of the House in May. Quiboloy's lawyer, Ferdinand Topacio, said he would try to convince the pastor to appear before the House panel.
