The Government has confirmed a significant reduction in the intervention at Liverpool City Council. Commissioners will hand back powers for finance and highways over the coming weeks. Whitehall's intervention came after a damning report into the local authority in 2021.

Work has begun to build 34 new homes in New Ferry. In March 2017, a furniture store off Boundary Road exploded, injuring 81 people. Wirral Council has been pursuing plans for regeneration with millions of pounds spent to revamp the town's high street.

Part of International Beatleweek will be hosted outside of Liverpool for the first time ever. Held over the August bank holiday weekend, the Floral Pavilion in New Brighton will play host to fans of the Fab Four. The Beatles performed at the town's former Tower Grounds music venue 27 times.
