The special edition features diamonds on the door locking pins and numerous Manufaktur personalization options
If you've been desperately searching for a last-minute Valentine's Day gift, don't be afraid; Mercedes-Benz has your back. Check out the G-Class "Stronger Than Diamonds Edition" , because nothing says "I love you" like a house on wheels studded with 25-carat diamonds. Limited to just 300 pieces because frankly you don't want to go that extravagant.
Mercedes claims it chose the big G for its "flexibility and unparalleled durability," as it's clear that enduring love is now measured in horsepower and off-road capabilities. And so “A love that will last forever. "Stronger than diamonds" was born.
The diamond-themed off-roader is finished in rosewood gray magno, a bespoke color created specifically for this special version by the Manufaktur personalization program. However, the crown jewel is the cluster of 25-carat diamonds that adorn all four stainless steel door lock pins. Mercedes will issue owners with a Responsible Jewelery Council (RJC) certificate stating that all diamonds in the G-Wagen come from "ethically, socially and ecologically responsible sources."
Leaving the shiny rocks aside, the interior is trimmed in black Nappa leather with rose contrast stitching. Deep pile floor mats will make your feet feel right at home, while "Stronger Than Diamonds" emblems can be found on the illuminated sills and passenger grab handle.
The key also features a silver badge bearing the name of the special edition around the diamond emblem, and additional diamond emblems are embossed on the door handles. Finally, the SUV comes with matching interior trim to distinguish you from other G-Class units in your collection.
Interestingly, the model is based on the Mercedes-Benz G500 rather than the AMG-branded G63. However, the standard twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine offers a significant value of 416 horsepower (310 kW / 421 PS) and 610 Nm (450 lb-ft) of torque. Power is distributed to all four wheels via a nine-speed automatic transmission.
Each of the 300 units of the Mercedes G-Class “Stronger Than Diamonds Edition” comes with a hefty price tag of €175,000 ($187,800) in Germany, making it a rather extravagant “love symbol.” To put that in perspective, the regular G500 starts at €130,204 ($139,713) in the same market; which suggests the "Manufaktur" treatment and diamond addition demand a €45,000 ($48,287) premium.
It is worth noting that Mercedes is on the verge of introducing the updated version of the G-Class, which is expected to be introduced in the first quarter of 2024.
