BYD's Cute Yuan UP SUV Starts at Just $14,000 with 94 HP and 32 kWh Battery.
The new model serves as the latest EV in the brand's Dynasty vehicle range.
The all-electric BYD Yuan UP has been fully revealed in a set of official images, and given how successful the larger Atto 3/Yuan Plus has been, it has the potential to be a very strong seller for the brand.
The vehicle forms part of BYD's evolving Dynasty vehicle range and adopts the Dragon Face design language. Compared to the Atto 3, the Yuan UP has a slightly more rugged design, similar to the approach Jeep took for the small Avenger. Given its interesting appearance, we think the Yuan UP could be quite popular among younger buyers.
The Yuan UP is 4,310 mm (170 in) long, 1,830 mm (72 in) wide and 1,675 mm (65.9 in) tall, with a wheelbase of 2,620 mm (103.1 in). The front is characterized by angled headlights with LED daytime running lights neatly combined, while the lower part of the bumper is finished in black and contains two small air intakes.
Viewed from the side, the Yuan UP somewhat reminds us of the Mercedes-Benz GLB, with its short front and rear overhangs, roofline, thick D-pillars and small rear window. Other striking elements of the small SUV's design include recessed door handles, black fenders and black side sills. The rear of the vehicle features an LED light bar, taillights with a particularly complex signature and a silver diffuser.
It is stated that BYD will sell the SUV with a 94 hp (70 kW) electric motor or a 174 hp (130 kW) electric motor, similar to BYD Dolphin options. It will also be possible to choose between two battery packs, a 32 kWh pack and a larger 45.1 kWh pack. The small SUV's range will range from 301 km (187 miles) to 401 km (249 miles), and prices are expected to start at around 100,000 yuan, or $14,000.
