On January 31, JMM leader Hemant Soren resigned as Jharkhand Chief Minister. Ruling JMM-led coalition proposed the name of senior leader Champai Soren as the new CM. Soren submitted his resignation to the Governor CP Radhakrishnan at the Raj Bhavan nearly after seven hours of questioning by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Soren was questioned on money laundering charges in an alleged land fraud case. The JMM Leader was earlier questioned on January 20.
