A teary-eyed Jose Mourinho has left Roma's training ground after being sacked as head coach.

The Portuguese manager was relieved of his duties with the Serie A side, who sit ninth in the league table, despite asking for a new contract.

It comes after his constant media guerrilla warfare upset the club's American owners and he left fans fed up after receiving five red cards during his time in charge.

Having won just one of their last six games, his final game in charge was Sunday's 3-1 defeat to AC Milan which he was forced to watch from the stands due to suspension.

Now, new footage has emerged of Mourinho leaving the training ground with tears in his eyes as he is given a farewell by fans.

The video shows the former Chelsea, Man United, and Tottenham coach in a car as the window rolls down.

Fans can then be heard screaming 'Grazie, mister', which translates to thank you.

The 60-year-old can be seen fighting back tears as he allows fans to take selfies.

The veteran manager won Roma fans over in his first season by winning the Europa Conference League and led his side to the final of the Europa League last term before they lost to Sevilla on penalties.

But Roma have fallen away badly in 2023-24 and currently sit ninth in Serie A, forcing the board to step in and relieve Mourinho of his duties. He leaves with a record of 60 wins, 30 draws, and 40 losses from his 138 games in charge.

He took an average of 1.7 points per game across his tenure, dropping to 1.45 this season, and according to a report by Calcio&Finanza, every point earned by Roma cost the club €3.5m (£3m) when taking into account the salaries of the players and coaches as well as the length of their contracts.

Roma's total of 29 points from their 20 games this term is their worst return since 2002-03 under Fabio Capello.

Taking Mourinho's place is Roma legend Daniele De Rossi, who has made more than 600 appearances for the side.

Astonishingly, it was revealed that Mourinho has earned close to £ 80 million just from being sacked by his previous clubs.

Chelsea have paid him more than £26m alone, with Mourinho having pocketed £18m when he was sacked at Stamford Bridge in 2007 and £8.3m following his second dismissal in 2015.

He was also given a £17m pay-off by Real Madrid and nearly £20m by Manchester United when he was binned in December 2018 - just months after he had signed a new two-year contract through to 2020.

An ill-fated 17-month stint at Tottenham also ended in the sack and a healthy £15m in compensation. He had another two years to run on his deal at Spurs when he was shown the door.

But, his payout from Roma is only likely to be around £3m, given he was out of contract at the end of the season.
