Sneak Peek: The Virtual Unveiling of the 2025 Mazda CX-70 Hybrid - Inside and Out
Last year, Mazda took a strategic step by discontinuing the CX-9 crossover SUV, as it introduced the groundbreaking CX-90 model featuring an entirely new architecture designed for specific markets such as North America.
In contrast to other global regions, North America won't receive the CX-60, which officially unveiled the Large Product Group architecture featuring RWD and AWD setups with a longitudinal engine layout. Instead, the U.S. market will soon welcome the CX-70 model, a slightly larger variant than the CX-60. The CX-90, with its three rows of seats, was introduced in the U.S., while international markets are set to receive the CX-80 counterpart.
Initially slated for a late 2023 release alongside the small CX-30, compact CX-5, CX-50, and flagship CX-90, the CX-70 faced a delay to 2024, with a planned reveal on January 30, 2024, subject to any further postponements. From a technical standpoint, the CX-70 will share the same platform as the CX-60 and CX-90, featuring longitudinal inline-six engines and PHEV options.
This places the CX-70 and its larger CX-90 counterpart in direct competition, not only with other two and three-row CUVs sporting ICE powertrains but particularly with Toyota's Highlander x Grand Highlander siblings, which exclusively offer regular hybrid powertrains. The real test lies in how they will stack up against the competition in the North American market once the CX-70 officially hits dealer lots.
While the CX-70 remains unofficial, digital car content creators have not hesitated to envision its premium design. PoloTo and AutoYa Interior, in anticipation of Mazda's official presentation on January 30, have presented their hypothetical CX-70 design projects.
PoloTo's pixel master injects personality into the CX-70, ensuring it stands apart from the larger CX-90. Their excitement centers around the potential hybrid powertrain option, anticipating Mazda's decision on whether the CX-70 will emerge as a performance mid-size crossover SUV with the electrified 2.5-liter engine boasting 323 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque.
Conversely, AutoYa Interior's CGI expert envisions the CX-70 as a simplified version of the CX-90, featuring mostly identical elements at the front and inside but with a shorter and sloping rear. As always, the channel presents a variety of virtual color options, even before the CX-70 hits the roads. The countdown to the virtual reveal of the 2025 Mazda CX-70 Hybrid continues with these creative previews.
