7 Spectators Fatal Crash @ Rally De A Coruña 2015

A horrific accident claimed the lives of seven spectators, during a special stage of the Rally de A Coruña, sixth round of the 2015 Campeonato Gallego de Rallys (Galician Rally Championship). It occurred around 19h40 on Saturday, 05 September 2015, nearly the village of Carral, province of A Coruña, Galicia in northwestern Spain.

On the approach to a fast right bend, less than one kilometer to the finish line of the 17.2-kilometer third special stage of the rally, the Peugeot 206 XS #39 of Sergio Tabeayo, mostly known as "Risi", and co-driver Luis Prego Santos, went out of control, hitting a ditch on the left side of the road. The car somersaulted, ending into a group of more than twenty spectators. Six of them were killed at the scene. Sixteen others suffered injuries in the crash, being taken to the Complejo Hospitalario Universitario and to the Hospital Materno Infantil Teresa Herrera in La Coruña. A ten-year old girl succumbed to her injuries the next morning.

The seven victims were: Sandra María Ares, 37, and her daughter Aroa Manteiga Ares, 14, from Carral; Marcos Prego, 35, from Barcia who resided in Carral; Miguel Caridad, 24, and his pregnant partner, Ana Cayazzo, 22, both from Cambre; Laura Dubra, 20, from Anceis. The seventh victim who died the following day was Uxía Maroño, 11, from Carral.

Four of the seven victims were from Carral. Even the experienced rally driver Sergio Tabeayo was from Carral. He and his co-driver Luis Prego Santos from Cerceda, escaped unhurt.
