Hunter Biden has been charged with 9 counts related to failing to file and pay taxes, tax evasion, and filing false tax returns between 2016-2019.
Prosecutors allege Hunter Biden engaged in a scheme to not pay over $1.4 million in taxes owed during those years. He eventually paid his 2018 taxes but included "false business deductions" to reduce his tax liabilities.
Hunter Biden is also accused of withdrawing millions from his company outside of payroll and tax withholding processes.
Prosecutors allege that the president's son spent millions on a lavish lifestyle, including drugs, escorts, luxury items, and properties, while neglecting to pay his tax bills from 2016 to October 2020.
His lawyer claims the charges only exist because of Hunter Biden's last name, and that a resolution had been reached until the special counsel "bowed to political pressure."
