Hong Kong's 'throwaway culture' criticized before plastic ban
Hong Kong faces a trash crisis, with 13 dumpsites full and three landfills running out of space by 2030. To address this, the city passed a bill for a two-stage ban on plastic products, aiming to create a plastic-free culture. However, environmentalists are concerned that if the throwaway culture persists, the ban might just shift the problem to other materials, emphasizing the need for a lifestyle change towards reuse.
