Sam Altman, the former CEO of OpenAI, has been appointed to lead a new AI research team at Microsoft. OpenAI's board removed Altman as CEO on Friday and replaced him with Mira Murati on an interim basis, citing a lack of "candid communications". After being removed as CEO, some OpenAI investors pushed to reinstate Altman. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced on Sunday that Altman, along with former OpenAI President Greg Brockman and other colleagues, would be joining Microsoft to lead a new advanced AI research team. Microsoft has invested billions in OpenAI and the two have a close partnership. Altman led OpenAI since 2019. The company is known for developing ChatGPT, an AI chatbot released in late 2022.
