Japan, PH leaders forge defense pact amid China's aggression
Japan and the Philippines will start negotiations for a defense pact to conduct joint military exercises in response to China's regional assertiveness. During Prime Minister Fumio Kishida's visit to Manila, he revealed a grant of a coastal surveillance radar under a new security assistance program. Japan will supply additional patrol vessels and defense equipment to bolster the Philippines' maritime law enforcement in the South China Sea, where territorial disputes continue.
