Tony Fernandes: AirAsia CEO criticized for LinkedIn photo
Snapchat isn't just for teens anymore.
Social media platforms have become a powerful tool for professionals to connect and share their experiences.
But sometimes, a post can backfire, as AirAsia CEO Tony Fernandes recently discovered.
Fernandes, the co-founder of AirAsia, posted a photo on LinkedIn during a management meeting.
The picture showed him receiving a massage topless in an office conference room.
In the caption, he praised the culture of his company and how it allowed him to have a massage during a meeting.
However, the post received a wave of criticism.
Many LinkedIn users found Fernandes' behavior unprofessional and inappropriate for the workplace.
One user pointed out that it could make others feel uncomfortable and that as the boss, people might not challenge him or speak up.
When reached for comment, Fernandes declined to speak to CNN.
However, he had earlier explained to Bloomberg that he had just endured an 18-hour flight and was in pain, so he took up the suggestion of the massage.
He also mentioned that he didn't mean to offend anyone and deleted the post.
Fernandes is best known for relaunching AirAsia, the region's first low-cost carrier.
He now serves as the CEO of the airline's parent company, Capital A. Fernandes has been dubbed the "Richard Branson of Asia" and has been vocal about fostering an open work culture.
While social media can be a great platform for sharing experiences, it's important to consider the impact of our posts, especially in a professional setting.
Tony Fernandes' LinkedIn post serves as a reminder that even the most successful leaders can face criticism for their online behavior.
