Death toll in Afghanistan quake surges to 2K

The death toll in western Afghanistan surged to over 2,000 on Sunday, Oct. 8, 2023 following a series of earthquakes. Rescuers searched for survivors amidst the rubble of destroyed villages after a magnitude 6.3 quake on Saturday (October 7, 2023), followed by eight powerful aftershocks, struck remote areas and toppled rural homes.
