A same-sex marriage solemnized at a Gurudwara has stirred controversy in Punjab with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and the Dal Khalsa calling for punishment of the granthi (the person who performed the ceremony). Both SAD and Dal Khalsa have claimed that this is violative of the Sikh religious code of conduct and said they have written to the Takht Damdama Sahib jathedar about the same.
