Australia abandons efforts to eradicate deadly parasite varroa mite

Australia has given up the fight to eradicate a deadly bee parasite the varroa mite after a group of government and industry representatives agreed to move to a management plan. The pest was first detected in the port of Newcastle in June last year and has since spread across NSW with millions of bees euthanised in the process.
