Firefighters battle peatland blazes as haze shrouds Indonesian city

Firefighters in western Indonesia are struggling to control extensive peatland fires that have blanketed Palembang, a city with nearly two million residents, in smoke for several weeks. The prolonged dry season has increased the likelihood of wildfires on the nation's major islands, raising concerns about a recurrence of the forest fires that have previously caused haze in Malaysia and Singapore.
