Soviet-demolished Odesa cathedral now hit by Russia
In Odesa's historic UNESCO-listed center, the Transfiguration Cathedral stands out as a relatively recent construction. The original cathedral was destroyed by the Soviets, and its modern replacement was finished in the early 2000s. However, recent Russian strikes on the Ukrainian port city have caused damage, leaving cracked walls and prompting officials to initiate restoration efforts.
