Chinese espionage operation has reportedly made a direct hit on the US. Reports said that Beijing-linked hackers accessed US Ambassador to China Nicholas Burns' email account. The spy operation is reported to have compromised at least hundreds of thousands of individual US government emails. The assistant secretary of State for East Asia, Daniel Kritenbrink was also hacked. Reports said that the wider spying operation was disclosed earlier this month by Microsoft. Earlier, before the reports of the spy operation appeared, Kritenbrink was asked at a congressional hearing on US-China policy whether he could rule out that his or his staff's emails were targeted in the Microsoft hack.
