Rembrandt portraits featured at Christie's auction
Forgotten Rembrandt portraits, unseen for almost 200 years, fetched over £11 million ($14 million) at Christie's 2023 'Classic Week' auction. The portraits of Jan Willemsz van der Pluym and his wife Jaapgen Carels, relatives of the artist, were last auctioned by Christie's on June 18, 1824. Now, offered by their family descendants, these portraits represent the sole pair of Rembrandt's works in private ownership.
