“I want to be chief minister,” Maharashtra’s Deputy CM Ajit Pawar said on July 5 as he attacked his uncle and NCP chief Sharad Pawar. Ajit Pawar also said, “You are 83, aren't you going to stop?” Ajit Pawar was addressing party workers at MET College in Bandra. On July 5, 30 NCP MLAs reportedly attended the meeting called by Ajit Pawar & over a dozen were seen in Sharad Pawar's camp. NCP has 53 MLAs in Maharashtra & Ajit Pawar would require the support of at least 36 MLAs to avoid the anti-defection laws.1
