Elizabeth Holmes, the disgraced founder of Theranos, has been ordered to start serving her prison sentence by May 30 while she appeals her conviction for defrauding investors in her failed blood-testing startup. U.S. District Court Judge Edward Davila issued the order after the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit rejected Holmes' request to remain on bail during the appeals process. Holmes was originally sentenced to 11 years and three months in prison, while Balwani received a sentence of 12 years and nine months plus three years of probation. Notable Theranos investors include Rupert Murdoch, Larry Ellison, Betsy DeVos, Jim Mattis, and the Walton and Cox families.
