A hair colourist dubbed "the king of rainbow" has clients fly 1,600 miles to him just so he can dye their hair - and charges £500 up to a session.

Mykey O’Halloran, 31, began to experiment with rainbow hair in 2012 and now brightly coloured 'rainbow' hairdos are his speciality.

The hair artist from Melbourne, Australia, says clients fly to his salon Unicorn Manes from as far away as New Zealand, an entirely different country.

It can take up to seven hours and cost up to £500 - or 950 AUSD - and he has a five-month-long waiting list for appointments.

Mykey, whose home and wardrobe are also multi-coloured, said: "Everything is rainbow in my life - I've always been expressive and colourful.

"That's just who I am and it translated to hair artistry.

"Now I get called the 'king of rainbow' - people call me a wizard too.

"I just go with inspiration - sometimes I've seen similar things online, some I even dreamt about then made it into a reality.

"I don’t think I’ll ever get bored of it. It's so rewarding giving people rainbow hair for the first time.

"Seeing their excitement and joy, it never gets old."

Mykey, who has 16 years experience in hairdressing, has rainbow hair and beard himself.

Mykey said his clients include anyone from pre-schoolers to grandparents - and anyone in between, and added: "I have a grandmother who comes. She's in her 70s and she always wanted rainbow hair.

"I also have another grandmother who is 63 - I love all the grandmothers who get their hair coloured.

"I used to do my own grandmother’s hair at her nursing home!

"I have lots of people who travel hours across from a different state to get to me.

"One client even came all the way from New Zealand with their family."

The average hair transformation costs £340 to £370 - but Mykey's priciest ever hair transformation cost £500.

But he said the job will "never get old" because of how much his clients love their hair transformations.

He said: "I see rainbow as happiness and joy and a lifestyle.

"People ask what the occasion is if they see me in public and I say 'life is the occasion'.

"My clients - everyone has a different story.

"Some people are transitioning, or expressing their sexuality, or breaking rules they have always lived by like my grandma clients.

"I get a lot of bookings for Pride - but I also get a lot of straight men come in for rainbow beards for their kids because they love it.

"Its just so much fun, I feel blessed that’s my work.

"I get to have fun everyday - and I wouldn’t have it any other way."
