Explosion mars Kishida visit to Japanese port

A loud explosion occurred at a western Japanese port on Saturday, April 15, 2023 during Prime Minister Fumio Kishida’s visit, but there were no injuries, Japan’s NHK television reported. The incident comes nine months after Kishida’s predecessor, Shinzo Abe, was assassinated and ahead of the Group of Seven ministerial meetings in preparation for the May 19-21 summit that the Japanese leader will host in Hiroshima.
